Fine art withdrew itself from realistic depictions and went on an exciting journey of searching for new means of expression. Some artists remained attached to nature and carried on painting its shapes, only more simplified and stylised. Others were discovering the new world of the unconscious and spiritual, which has no visual references. Looking at abstract artworks can sometimes be slightly tiresome and frustrating. The interaction implies an active engagement with a viewer. Unnamed and unfamiliar shapes confuse our brain, making it step out of its comfort zone. Still, Abstract Art speaks a language that is totally comprehensible. In order to have a dialogue with an abstract painting one perhaps needs a bit more time for contemplation and to do some homework.  Join artist Victoria Kovalenko as she presents a talk and shares her experience of looking and analysing Abstract Paintings as well as how it enters her practice. 'HYG Editions' Gallery Ground Floor 19 November - 20 December 2015

Hundred Years Gallery 13 Pearson Street London E2 8JD

November 2015 we are launching our new project ‘HYG Editions’ with an exhibition of new and unseen works from 8 artists who have collaborated with us in the past. The pieces include limited edition prints, selected drawings and collage work, and will be available for a limited amount of time only.

The exhibition – which is running parallel to ROOMS Magazine`s programmed show ‘ The Decline of Conscience’ by Nick JS Thompson  – ties in with the Gallery`s 4th anniversary.

This is our opportunity to say thank you to artists who have supported the Hundred Years Gallery over the last four years and to encourage recent entries to engage with the project. The works are a wide selection of new and exciting work by practitioners with a passionate commitment for the arts.

'HYG Editions' artists include: Yvonne Yiwen Feng, Hellen Bermingham, Victoria Kovalenko, Mary Lemley, Nick JS Thompson, Lex Thomas, Jaime Valtierra & Rita Says.
